Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

I am writing to make you aware of a unique opportunity for exceptional early stage faculty:Francis S. Collins Scholars (FCS) Program in Neurofibromatosis Clinical and Translational Research. The FCS Program is a key initiative of the Neurofibromatosis Therapeutic Acceleration Program (NTAP, www.n-tap.org) designed to grow a community of exceptionally talented and well-trained clinician scientists who will be leaders in the field of Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).

NTAP is dedicated to the advancement of research that will improve the lives of people with NF1. A major need to accomplish this mission is the training and support of clinician scientists who are dedicated to careers focused on NF1. NTAP launched the FCS Program to address this need.

Candidates must be in their last stage of post-doctoral training or in the first seven years on faculty, have patient-care responsibilities, a commitment to patient-focused research, have demonstrated research experience and productivity, have a clear commitment to NF1 research, and have appropriate mentorship for both the scientific and clinical aspects of their NF1 career training.

The program provides up to 100% salary support for FCSs, support for research costs, tuition for relevant coursework, travel costs for scientific meetings and learning experiences, and mentor stipends. FCSs also benefit from a curriculum focused on patient-oriented translational and clinical science and a research community that supports their progress in NF1 research.

All applications, review processes, and post-award management are done through ProposalCentral. Please visit the following link to begin applying: https://proposalcentral.com/GrantOpportunities.asp?GMID=229

Guidelines and instructions about the Francis S. Collins Scholars (FCS) Program in Neurofibromatosis Clinical and Translational Research application process are attached. If you have general inquiries about the application, please email info@n-tap.org. For technical support in ProposalCentral, please email pcsupport@altum.com or call 1-800-875-2562.

The deadline for application submission is December 9, 2022 at 11:59pm.  Applicants will be notified of award by January 13, 2023. The FCSs tenure starts in July 1, 2023.

NTAP is seeking applications from excellent candidates from around the world and across all disciplines that have relevance to NF1. We particularly encourage applications from early career investigators that identify as belonging to communities that are under-represented in health sciences. Prior experience in NF1 is not required. We anticipate providing one to two awards in this application cycle.

We request that you encourage excellent clinician scientist candidates in your sphere that you feel have the characteristics described above to apply.

Thank you, in advance, for encouraging applications to this unique and exciting program.  Please contact us any time at info@n-tap.org with any questions.  The NTAP team and I are delighted to offer any guidance or assistance in the application process.

Sincerely,

Jaishri Blakeley, MD
